Description

Very beautiful bronze with green and brown patina representing an allegorical figure, The Thinker, circa 1880, by Emile Louis PICAULT (1833-1915), signed on the plinth and hidden at the back of the BD founder in Paris. .E.PICAULT was a French sculptor well known for his allegorical representations of warriors, historical or mythological figures. He started exhibiting at the Paris Salon from 1863 where he regularly sends his works. His works are in the French museums of Chambéry, Clermont-Ferrand and Maubeuge. It is referenced in the encyclopedia of painters and sculptors Bénézit at Gründ editions as well as in the famous 19th century Bronze encyclopaedia of Pierre Kjellberg.
