Description
A very good example of an early Victorian spoon back chair. This is a totally original chair dating from circa 1840, to some it may not be appealing, but to the real collectors of early Victoriana it is a rare find. The frame is mahogany, the spoon back is an English label for this type of chair, the back having the shape of a spoon. The chair has its original horse hair padding and what I believe its original fabric. The shape of the chair also makes it a great example and the chair still retains its original castors. The design is often also referred to as a nursing chair, a mother or nurse when sitting in it would have their head at the same height as a sick child or adult
