This charming and highly decorative pencil portrait was produced in England during the 19th century. The idyllic scene features a group of children playing in the garden. The scene of children playing was a very popular genre in the late 18th and early 19th century, the age of sensibility. See the works of George Morland, Francis Wheatley etc.

Our children are playing the game Blind Man’s Buff. The drawing has been drawn by a confident and talented artist with an excellent level of attention to detail. Of course drawing and sketching was a lady’s accomplishment at this period and mostly every lady could paint or draw. We love how the artist has drawn the costumes including sweet little Georgian shoes and buckles, even a church spire can be seen in the background. The drawing is on paper and is housed behind glass in a 19th century bird’s eye maple frame with more modern gilt slip inner.

A very pretty rendering, this is the perfect country house antique, ideal for anyone who loves all things English country house style. This decorative artwork will display excellently in any setting.
